Team's Student Visionaries of the Year Fundraiser

Jan 11, 2024

This year, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) has nominated us, Eva Dow and Emma Zadok as co-candidates in their 2024 Houston Student Visionaries of the Year fundraising campaign, and we could not be more excited to make a difference in the lives of patients across the country! Student Visionaries of the Year is a seven-week competition led by high school students to raise money to support LLS and their cause. We are writing today to ask for your support of our campaign and LLS’s mission to find cures for blood cancers and to assist patients and families battling leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease or myeloma. Today more than a million Americans are fighting a daily battle with blood cancers, and every 3 minutes another person unwillingly joins the fight. We have been given the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to join the battle and help those living with blood cancers.

This mission is especially important to us because Eva’s Aunt Lisa fought her own battle with leukemia. She and our campaign’s Honored Hero, Trace, were both teenagers like us when they were diagnosed. After learning about their experiences and the way they both fought to survive cancer, we wanted to help make a difference in the lives of others who are also struggling. Lastly, we hope to help improve financial aid and patient programming for all adolescents going through cancer.

ABOUT EVA’S AUNT: Lisa Koche was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia when she was just 15 years old. After 3 years of chemotherapy, doctors thought that her cancer was cured. At 20 years old, the cancer came back in one of her ovaries, so doctors had to remove it. After 2 more years of chemo and complications that even caused heart failure, Lisa was able to survive and finally beat it. Today, she is a triple board-certified physician who runs an integrative medical practice called Spectra Wellness Solutions. She combines Eastern and Western medicine to help her patients take charge of their health. Eva’s Aunt Lisa believes no one should have to battle cancer like she did and is a strong source of motivation behind our campaign.

ABOUT TRACE LANGIN: In the summer of 2022, Trace was diagnosed with High Grade B-Cell Lymphoma. Similar to Lisa, he was 15 years old. He went through months of demanding and strenuous chemotherapy. That following September, he had completed his treatment and entered remission. Trace enjoys hobbies that many teenagers do as well like, football, traveling, and spending time with friend and family.

We have assembled Team Killincancer to help us raise funds. I am proud to lead my campaign team and work towards our goal to raise $100,000 during the next 7 weeks - from Thursday, January 11th until Saturday, March 2nd.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is the largest donor to blood cancer research in the nation. They have invested over $1.6 billion in research and are leaders in advancing breakthroughs in immunotherapy, genomics and personalized medicine. These revolutionary new treatments originally discovered through blood cancer research are now being tested in clinical trials for other cancers. While there has been phenomenal progress, there is still so much more to be done. Cancer is still one of the leading causes of death in children and young adults.

Our campaign provides an opportunity to support the critical work of LLS in combating these diseases. We are raising money that will go directly to LLS in support of its longstanding mission to find a cure and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. Along with our team, we will work to increase awareness about the impact of blood cancers and the cutting edge treatments that are currently being researched, as well as inspire others to join the fight to find a cure. We cannot do this alone, we need your help.

OUR TEAM:

MY WHY:

❤️❤️❤️

Eva’s Aunt went through cancer as a teenager. Look at her now!!

Visionaries look to the future—and see infinite possibility.
They challenge the status quo—and make the impossible possible.
They boldly imagine a better world – and lead the charge to create it.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society was built on that same vision - of a better world - one without blood cancers.

I am a visionary; I have a vision for a world without cancer, but I need your help.

This year, I’m proud to be a part of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Student Visionaries of the Year Campaign, working to raise as much as possible for LLS’s mission.

As a global leader in the fight against blood cancer, LLS:

  • Funds cutting-edge research leading to breakthroughs in immunotherapy, genomics and personalized medicine that are improving and saving the lives of patients
  • Provides free education and support for blood cancer patients and families, including personalized, one-on-one support, assistance with identifying and enrolling in clinical trials, and more.
  • Mobilizes thousands of advocates to drive policy changes that accelerate the development of new cancer treatments and break down barriers to care.

Please consider joining this fight by making a donation. All donations are greatly appreciated and tax-deductible. Please visit my website often and tell friends who would also like to donate!

Thanks to your support, my efforts will help ensure this generation is the last to see cancer.

On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere, thank you!
